Loot Tiers - 7 Days to Die
In 7 Days to Die there is a stat called "Loot Stage" and this stat upgrades along with your Game State and your Level. You can find your current Loot Stage by heading to Character tab and selecting "Core Character Stats". This is up to date as of Alpha 20.5 (b2)
Loot Stage's have 5 total tiers to achieve, each tier gives the ability to get better loot. The tier levels and loot examples can be seen below. Your base loot stage is your Player Level, so a level 10 will be loot stage 10, 75 will be loot stage 75, and a level 200 player will be loot stage 200.
Tier 0: Loot Stage 0-39
Tier 1: Loot Stage 40-79
Tier 2: Loot Stage 80-117
Tier 3: Loot Stage 118-261
Tier 4: Loot Stage 262+
Biome Modifiers
There are Loot Stage modifiers that boost your Looting Stage to give you better loot, the first is the biome modifier. For these demonstrations we are going to assume your player level is 10.
Forest: Player Level + 0 = 10
Desert/burned: Player Level + (Player Level 0.5) + 10 = 25
Snow: Player Level + Player Level + 20 = 40
Waist Land: Player Level + (Player Level 1.5) + 30 = 55
POI Modifiers
Now lets take a look at the POI (Points of Interest's) Loot Stage boost, Like the biomes each POI level gives you a looting bonus. You can tell the level of a POI by the loot chest inside of it, level 1 has a Wood Crate, level 2 has a Leather Trunk, level 3 has a Reinforced Chest, level 4 has a Hardened Chest [Small], and level 5 has a Hardened Chest [Large]. Each level corresponds to a trader tier quest, so a tier 1 job will bring you to a level 1 POI, tier 2 job to a level 2 POI, 3 to 3, and so on.
POI level 1: 5% + 3
POI level 2: 10% + 6
POI level 3: 15% + 9
POI level 4: 20% + 12
POI level 5: 25% + 15
Item and Perk Modifiers
Next are the Item Modifiers and the Perk Modifiers. Lets start with the items. Lucky Goggles can give you anywhere from +3 to +5 to your loot stage when equipped onto a player, the amount it give depends totally on the level of goggles you have, so when you find another pair in the wild check to see if they are better then your current ones. The next item is Eye Kandy, this is a food item that temporally grants the consumer a boost to their loot stage. It will give you +10% increase with a +5 on top of that, this can be purchased from vending machines for 100 Duke Tokens.
Now for the Perk Modifiers, and you probably already know that the perk "Lucky Looter" corresponds to your looting stage. Each Lucky Looter level gives you a +5% increase in loot stage all the way up to 25% at level 5.
Adding them all together
The game adds all these perks together to give you a final Looting Stage, and the game seems to add them like so:
(Player Level + (Biome Modifier Player Level) + Biome Bonus + (POI Tier Modifier Player Level) + POI Bonus + Item/Perk Bonus) * Percentage Modifier
The Percentage Modifier is calculated by the Sum of Item and Perk percentage modifiers
End of Dungeon Bonus
Finally the chests I talked about earlier in each tier POI have a slight bonus when they are opened. They will give you a + 5% + 6 to your total when you open them.
